Maui Tech Night Gala, Mai Tai, and More

As the newest Hawaii location of ROC is set to open in Honolulu, there is further evidence that ROC is always in the right place at the right time, starting with the Maui Tech Night Gala happening on May 15th which will be granting up to $500,000 for a chosen tech start-up worthy of and in need of investor dollars. This special event takes place at the Maui Country Club-Spreckelsville on May 15th from 6-10pm and will be featuring private entertainment by the internationally renowned reggae artists (and Maui resident) Mishka. Coinciding with Mishka’s new release entitled Ocean Is My Potion, his performance concludes the end of a 2 month promotional tour covering Europe and the mainland (US).

Maui Tech Night Gala will be Hawaii’s very first start-up incubator hosted by mbloom, Crowd Alliance, and Mai Tai Global Group. The opportunity to access the $500,000 prize of investor capital via the Crowd Alliance crowdfunding platform will come down to five (5) most promising new start-up ventures will pitch in front of an elite panel of judges.

Host of the History Channel show Invention USA, inventor and technologist, Reichart Von Wolfsheild will be among the judging panel. A marketing genius that has held an influential role with companies such as Netflix, Gap, Sephora, and Zynga, Padma Rao. The Maui Director of Engineering for Google’s Niantic Labs, a member of the University of Hawaii Maui College advisory board, and a co-chair of Maui Software Initiative, Jamie Dinkelbacker will be among the panel to impress on May 15th.

The submission deadline for the pitch contest at the Maui Tech Night Gala is May 10th, 2014 by 9 pm (Hawaii time) and can be e-mailed to for consideration.

The eclectic group of entrepreneurs hosting this gala (which include Mai Tai Global Group, mbloom and Crowd Alliance) are unified in their goal of mentorship, providing accelerator opportunities, access to venture capital and targeted alignment of promotion and strategy to promote success in the Hawaii technology scene.

Also called #Startup Paradise, mbloom is Hawaii’s first early stage technology fund targeting resources to growing profitable Hawaii businesses by helping entrepreneurs not only build products but assists in creating “go-to market strategies”. Recently in the news (January 2014) mbloom Fund 1 secured $10 million for early-stage venture capital funding. This public-private partnership to fund qualifying local start-up groups was facilitated in alliance with the Hawaii State Development Corporation (HSDC), Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners.

The Mai Tai Global Group’s name may sound like company with a mix of business and pleasure, and that is true, according to founders Susi Mai (a professional kiteboarder) and Bill Tai (a Silicon Valley venture capitalist). The group gathers in Maui to not only conduct serious business, and share their support of technology start-ups, but to enjoy the recreation, which of course includes some kitesurfing!

Crowd Alliance is a new web-based crowdfunding platform which facilitates accredited investors to “view and subscribe” to investor opportunities in markets that include technology, media entertainment, restaurant services, consumer goods, Health & Wellness, and Real Estate. Through multiple types of “opportunities” the Crowd Alliance “portal” maximizes the opportunities and access to the financial innovation that is crowdfunding.
