Showdown at ROC! New Ventures by Harvard Business Alumni

If you’re a fan of startups, light appetizers, and impressive event names, you should know about the Alumni New Venture Competition Regional Finals Harvard Business School Entrepreneurship Event. The HBS Regionals will be held at ROC’s Santa Monica office on Tuesday, February 28th, from 7:00pm-9:00pm.

It’s going to be a great chance to find out what investors are looking for in new ventures, get inspired with some ideas of your own, and meet other people who enjoy startups and snacks.

For an idea about what to expect, there will be three ventures pitching in front of a panel of elite judges. After the regional winners are decided, 4 finalists will be chosen from around the world. The final winner will receive a $75,000 cash prize, and a lot of attention from hungry VC’s.

But until then, the three ventures competing in the regionals need to meet some basic criteria:

  • They all must have founders who are Harvard Business School alum; the alum must lead the pitches
  • The venture must not exceed $2 million USD in revenue.

The ventures will be judged by a panel of three: Matt McCullough, Co-Chairman of the Harvard Business School Alumni Angels of Southern California, Karen Hernandez, Managing Director and Co-Founder of IvyPitch, and Mark Mansfield, Principal at Global Capital Markets Inc..

The panel will base their pick for the regional winner on the following:

  • How well the venture proposes to solve an elucidated problem
  • How well the pitch addresses the growth and potential of the market for the venture
  • Whether or not there is an attractive and comprehensible business model
  • Clear financing plans
  • Competence of the team

Be sure to stop by ROC Santa Monica on the 28th! Tickets to the event are $20. Harvard Business School Alumni Members pay a discounted $10 fee.
